This was a double thickness quartzite island made by mitering the stone all around its edges. Normal stone thickness is 3cm or about 1.25 inches. Quartzite is a specialty natural stone similar to granite, marble, limestone but also much harder and requires more tooling to fabricate. The pattern and look often takes the best of both granite and marble. Unlike Quartz which does not need to be sealed and is an engineered stone from majorly crushed stone, marble, glass, and bonded with some resin, Quartzite is a natural stone and does need to be sealed every other year depending on the frequency of use.
It was a time consuming process to plan the pattern, cuts, fabricate, seal, and ship to Wisconsin (yeah, we went super far to deliver this one with several vehicles). It was a large team project and a fun time getting burgers after a day of work. We are very proud of how well this island turned out!
Best wishes enjoying countertops!
